Super Food is here!

So, I just took a nutrition class from Vanderbilt University on Coursera. Because I have come across a lot of different diets since I have become interested in nutrition and fitness. It’s so easy to get lost in the clouds of information. What’s hard nowadays is no longer the access to information but rather how to sift through the massive amount of information. I felt like I really needed to pay attention to the credibility of information and really look into the “textbook”. I wanted to make sure they are at least scientific-based.

“Super food” is not a new term. Many recent superfood includes common food choices whose nutritional value has been long recognized. Examples of these would be berries, nuts and seeds in general, dark green vegetables , citrus fruits, fatty fish, vegetables with bright, dark or intense colors, many legumes, and whole grains as a group.

The class that I took also gave an example list of super food. A lot of them are already in common everyday diet, but I think this is still a great guide for grocery shopping. It’s now on my fridge door. And I wanted to share this with you and hope you find it helpful as well.

Empties

skincare empties

I don’t really collect my beauty empties, but I do think empties are pretty convincing, at least it means I have used the products for a certain amount of time and should have the stand to say something about them.

1. Chanel UV Essentiel Complete Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50

Let’s just say I love this sunscreen and would totally pay the full price for it if not it has alcohol in it… I think combination/oily skin would really love using this sunscreen. Non-sticky, easy to wash off and very effective. Great sunscreen!

2. Jergens Skin Firming Daily Toning Moisturizer

I don’t really believe it has skin-firming effects. But I do like the texture of this body cream and it is very moisturizing. It would make a great and affordable body moisturizer in drier seasons.

3. La Mer Regenerating Serum (sample)

Maybe it is because this is just a sample and I didn’t use it long enough to see the effects. But I think I love The Concentrate much more than this one. If you have the budge to buy this, give The Concentrate a try as well.

4. Cetaphil Cleanser

No explanation needed!

5. Omorovicza Deep Cleansing Mask

Call me insane for spending so much money on a cleansing mask! I don’t usually spend this much money on a mud mask, because I do think cleansing mask is so basic that tons of products can do a good job. But this is different, it has so many essential oils in it and for those who have sensitive skins, seriously try this. I am really impressed by this cleansing mask. Omorovicza products are powered by a potent blend of Hungary’s mineral-rich healing waters and our patented Hydro Mineral Transference™ delivery system. This is combined with the finest vitamins, essential oils and other natural ingredients from across the globe, from the bed of Lake Heviz to the peak of the Andes mountains. I think this mask does a good job cleansing your skin without over-dry or irritate your skin at all. It also calms my skin when I have break outs. Great, great product. The only thing that’s not so lovely about this great product is the price, LOL

6. Bobbi Brown Instant Long-Wear Makeup Remover

Very good makeup remover. Excellent cleansing power, doesn’t irritate the eyes at all. Reminds me of Neutrogena eye makeup remover somehow. Neutrogena is surely a less expensive alternative.

7. Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Serum

I have used full size of this eye serum along with Kiehl’s Avocado Eye Cream long time ago. They worked very well as a pair. The serum makes the eye cream much easier for the skin to absorb. This sample comes with my recent purchase of the Perfectionist [CP+R] serum. I think I still like it, but I am not sure if I would repurchase the serum in near future. There are just so many good products out there in the market, sorry ANR!

8. Clarins High Definition Body Lift

I really love this body cream-gel. It claims itself as an intensive cellulite control treatment that helps optimize the release of excess fat, even from the most stubborn places. It helps minimize the appearance of cellulite, and enhances skin texture with a dual-toning and smoothing action. This is probably my fifth or sixth bottle. I can’t say that the gel-cream itself can give you “body definition”, I don’t quite buy that, honestly. But I do think it helps reduce cellulite over time. I love, love the texture. It is very smoothing and relaxes your post-workout burning muscles. But just because it has a cooling effect. It can be too cold to use in cooler days. I’d say it is great for summer. Very light and sinks into the skin right away. I am also in love with its refreshing and floral scent.

9. Lumene Vitamin C + Age Defying Radiant Beauty Drops

let’s just say, I don’t like it. I got it from CVS for something about $15, very good price for a vitamin C serum. The ingredient list looks very good. It has silicon in it, so it might work well as a good primer for people who have oily skins and pore concerns. I don’t like it because it tends to ball up very easily with my other skin care products. I do like the smell though. I do appreciate its independent capsule packaging, keep the formula fresh and effective. Fat-soluble vitamin C is more gentle on the skin and more stable to preserve than water-soluble vitamin C (ascorbic acid), although water-soluble vitamin C is supposed to be more effective. If you want to add a fat-soluble vitamin C to your skin care routine, try Kiehl’s Line-reducing concentrate. It delivers 10.5% pure vitamin C. I have used up a 75ml bottle and I loved it. It also has silicon in it judging from the ingredient list. But it doesn’t ball up, at least not with my  skin care routine.

10. Egyptian Magic All Purpose Skin Cream

This is a solidified, oil-based balm, you can soften it by warming it up before applying it. Take a moderate amount and rub it in your hands until it softens and turns into oil, then gently apply to your skin. A little bit goes a long way. I bought it because a lot of people say it helps with acnes. Unfortunately it didn’t save me from acne problem. But I do think it has anti-inflammation effects. I get redness after shaving, but not anymore if I apply this cream after shaving. I use it for my elbows, knees and feet as well. This balm is made of Honey, Beeswax, Olive Oil, Royal Jelly, Bee Pollen and Bee Propolis. It doesn’t have any additives, preservatives, fragrances, chemicals or parabens.

11. Retin-A

No explanation needed! You know I am religious in using Retin-A now.

I got some new pieces to add to my closet lately. How about you? Are you ready for summer?

Floral prints is so in trend right now, but I found most of them too overwhelming on my short body, sadly. But I love my new jacket and dress. I do prefer the dress to be a little shorter. It is right at my knee height, I wish it would be right above my knees. But I love, love the mirror prints! So pretty!

Currently Snacking On… Papaya Boat to Hawaii!

papaya boat 2

Summer is here! Are you feeling the nice breeze?

Papaya enzymes help protein digestion, so I always love to eat papaya with milk or yogurt. Add some berries because summer is the season for berries! Do eat organic berries whenever possible because berries have a lot of pesticides on them, yikes… Fortunately summer is the right season, so organic berries are affordable now, especially if you can get them in your local farms market or Costco. Hurry up!
